Kalanggaman Island: A Place Best Described as Captivating

Kalanggaman Island: A place best described as captivating.
After reading so much about this island on Facebook and blogs, I decided to visit this place and join the hype. I thought it was just like an ordinary island and it only looked good on blogs because of aerial photographs by expensive drones. But I was wrong, the island actually looked better in person. Photos don't do justice!

Kalanggaman Itinerary Day One:

How to get there:

North Bus Terminal

From Cebu, we rode an air conditioned bus (Ceres Liner, P135), from North-bus Terminal going to Bogo Terminal. It took us about 3 hours to get there.

Bogo Terminal

When arriving at Bogo Terminal, buy what you need (water, charcoal, food) before sailing to Kalanggaman. There is a market and grocery store at the terminal. There is no store at Kalanggaman Island. When you are all set, ride a tricycle that will take you to Nailon Port. It's just a 10 minute ride from Bogo Terminal.

Nailon Port

From Nailon Port to Kalanggaman Island, it took us only 1 hour. I guess the boat was very fast since there were only 7 of us including the crew. I checked my GPS and we were traveling at a speed of 25km/h.
Our BANGKA! I was surprised how big it was. P9,500 rental fee roundtrip. Good for 60 persons.
 Kalanggaman Island

From afar, you can already see the white sands of the island. It's just a small island. You can walk around the whole island for less than 30mins.

White sands!
Sandbars

Most tourists come here because of the island's famous sandbars. There are two sandbars, one on each side. We only visited the one you see most on social media. The other sandbar is on the opposite side.

The Sun is unforgivably hot. (Photo taken around 2:00PM)
The sandbar that's making the island famous. Be careful of rip currents though.

The Sun with a halo. We were waiting for the sunset.
Sunset

One thing you can witness on the island is a spectacular sunset.

My Sun-kissed companions.
The Sun is about to set.
Simply beautiful.
Rocks become Gold colored during sunset.
Goodbye Sun!
A sky full of stars and then Moon-rise.

Ahh night-time, the best time to do star gazing. You actually do not see just the stars but the Milky Way itself. Just look at the photos I took with my Go Pro Hero 4. You will be amazed.

The Milky Way and some lightning strikes from afar.
Shooting star. The sky's bright already since the moon had already risen on the horizon.
That's the Moon rising. The Milky Way is still visible.
Group photo. 30s exposure to capture the night sky.
Time to sleep. Goodnight!
 Kalanggaman Itinerary Day Two:

Sunrise

I woke up at 4:00am. The horizon started to glow blue. I knew it's the Sun ready to rise from afar. Here are some of my shots.

Morning Activities:

We did not do much during the morning. We just cooked and ate our breakfast and had an early morning dip. We did however made some friends.

Canadian friends haha!
Time to say goodbye.
We will definitely miss this place.
Bye Kalanggaman. Until we meet again.
Last glance at this beautiful place.
We left the island at 9:30am. We went to Capitancillo Islet (side trip) which I will make a separate blog post about.

Posted below are some important things you should know.

1. No store on the island. Buy your goods at Bogo Terminal.
2. No electricity. Bring powerbanks.
3. Tents can be rented for a fee (P400). Good for 4 persons.
4. Cottages are abundant and affordable. Also well built.
5. Plastic beach beds can be rented. (P300)
6. Tables and chairs can also be rented.
7. Lots of shade for resting.
8. Nights can be windy.

And please do not throw your garbage anywhere. You should bring it back to Nailon where you can dispose of it properly. Let's be responsible travelers!

Expenses:

I made the table above just to give you an idea on how much are the possible expenses should you decide to visit Kalanggaman Island.

I hope I was able to convince you to visit this lovely island of Leyte. You will never regret it!
